Deep Waters

Sep 02, 2021
When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”
Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”
When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.

Luke 5:1-11

The disciples doubted Jesus.

They had been fishing all night and their nets were empty.

Jesus said, “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.”

They doubted Jesus.

They tried to argue with him that it wouldn’t work.

Jesus encouraged them to try again.

The disciples lowered their nets and were astonished at their catch.

They caught so many fish that their boats were close to sinking.

Do you have an area in your life where Jesus is calling you into deep waters to lower your nets? Are you facing an impossible situation in your life?  Are you struggling in your marriage or an important relationship? Are you overwhelmed with fear about Covid? Are you searching for self-worth in all the wrong places? Are you a teacher who is drowning in the classroom?

Have you tried over and over again without any success?

What if you tried one more time?

What would you have to let go of...doubt, worry, control, fear, anger, unforgiveness?

What if you followed Jesus into the deep waters and gave it all to him? He amazed the disciples, so why wouldn't he do the same for you? They followed Jesus' command even though they believed the situation was hopeless. The disciples were tired and frustrated from a long night, but they had a little flicker of hope in Jesus. It was the hope that things could be different that sent them back into the deep water. It was hope that gave their tired bodies the strength to throw the nets in just one more time. I can imagine the disciples complaining to each other as they tossed the nets into the water. I can imagine the grumblings about how this wasn't going to work, but this time they were surprised.

You might think you are out of options. You might believe that there is no hope, but what if you trusted Jesus like the disciples? What if you try one more time even though your brain is telling you it won't work? Even though you are mentally and physically exhausted, what if you followed Jesus into the unknown and trusted him in the darkest parts of your life? What if you just tried ONE more time.

This time could be filled with blessings, miracles, healings and spiritual abundance that only God can provide. As a Catholic Life Coach, I help people see that there are so many possibilities available to them. We examine their thoughts to uncover the lies that they believe. Once we identify the lies, we begin to replace them with true thoughts and true beliefs.

How would your life be different if you were aware of the amazing possibilities that God had planned for you?

Jesus wants to fill your nets with hope, love and peace...will you let him?
